New to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?

What Is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?

Jiu Jitsu is a martial art which focuses on grappling, with ground fighting being a major component of the style. We use body weight, gravity and momentum to defend ourselves even when physically outmatched. Proper technique is key and learning from experienced teachers is essential to progress. With training, students not only learn to defend themselves in the real world, but also gain physical fitness, confidence and mental concentration skills as well.

This is what you can expect at Your First Class

The key to a great time? – Relax! Unless you’ve trained in combat sports before, to the average person the first class can seem like an unrelenting wave of new techniques, odd lingo, and if that weren’t bad enough, everyone in the class is better than you! How is that supposed to be fun? – The key is your ATTITUDE. If you relax, listen to your instructor, and just accept that this is a part of beginning a new experience, you’ll find that training at Freedom Jiu Jitsu will be as rewarding as it is challenging.

Great place to learn.

-Joe Starcevich

Highly recommend FJJ, especially for women. I feel significantly more prepared and capable to defend myself should the need arise, and it has all been through regular BJJ training. They are supportive, patient, and genuinely kind. They tailor their instruction to their audience, from kids to complete beginners to advanced adults. I’m so grateful that Freedom Jiu Jitsu was my first exposure to BJJ. Truly cannot recommend it more.

-Victoria

Freedom started as a place to get a good workout/learn a new skill, but turned into a community I consider a second family. Jeremy is highly professional and all of the coaches are top-notch. This sport can be intimidating (especially as a woman), but this community surpassed my expectations in making me feel comfortable and welcomed. Highly recommend.
